A dictionary description of a Monk: A man who is a member of a brotherhood living in a monastery and devoted to a discipline prescribed by his order. Monk are an odd class in Everquest 2. They are the only fighter class, along with bruisers not to wear plate armor. Their hit points are quite low compared to most plate classes, and they lack shields, so how does a monk tank? Most will say they don't, and something along the lines of reroll, but a well played monk can be one of the highest melee hitters in the game, and tank well.

Hopefully through this guide I will tell you how. First of all, lets look at Monk "Green" stats. The three stats you really want are agility which governs your dodge and other skills along that lineStrength which governs your damageand Stamina that governs your health. Intelligence and Wisdom are not really needed. To give you an idea of what you need, at level 80, strength in a group is good.
Next, lets look at gear, starting with weapons. A monk has katars, fist wraps, bo staffs and cetus, but can also use hammers, and other crushing weapons. A monk can use any of these, and until about 80 or so, they are all equally good.
If possible, a monk should use a pair of weapons, with the same attack delay times 2. At lower levels, a two handed weapon would be fine, especially if has parry or strength, but only up till about 60 or so.
Everquest 2 : Best Solo Class
After 60, there are alot of better single handed weapons. A monk can be one of the highest hitting fighter classes, but to do so, you need to know how to time your attacks. First of all, I would suggest you download an auto-attack timer. ProfitUI and Fetish UI, both come with built in auto attack timers, and there are plenty of good standalone ones. When installed, you will need some practice with it. This is the reason you should have two weapons with the same attack delay.
Watch the bars, and between each auto attack, you want to use one, or two combat arts. Learn to time it so that the auto attack bar never stops moving. This is one of the trick to maximize your DPS. Sign In Don't have an account? Start a Wiki. Do you like this video?

Categories :. Cancel Save.Monks are a leather-wearing melee DPS class. They avoid better than any other class, and mitigate passably as well. They are distinguished by their ability to feign death which allows them to be far better at pulling then most other classes. The task of pulling involves three distinct phases: Splitting the mob s you want from other nearby ones Moving the mob to the tank Passing aggro safely on to someone else.
Monk abilities by level: Monk abilities. Monks have a unique set of skills to help in each of these tasks. Splitting : Sneak, throw, and the 'silhoutette' and 'echo' disc lines.
Passing: Feign and imitate death. Safefall: Monks have safefall skill so they don't take too much dmg from falling short heights.
Don't jump off a high bridge or cliff though!! To practice safefall you can auto-train in Erudin at the zone in. Take the first 'warper' up to the balcony and face one notch north of east on your compass the idea is you run off and fall down to the warper again using auto-run.
Set yourself to run mode as walk mode wont allow you over the rail. This will make you run forward, leap over the railing, fall down for a skill attempt, move forward to the warper to put you back up top again and heading for the railing again. You can keep training until your max here but don't auto-walk unattended when your skill is below Safefall is helpful for some pulling situations where it is better to leap out of a building to bring a mob back to your group than to run down the stairs and hallways the long way and getting beat on the whole way.
The mob usually takes the stairs and you are sitting at the group watching for adds FD early and cancel the pull or for the tank to tag the pull.

Progression Armor.Nowadays most classes solo and level pretty well in EQ2, as the classes are mostly fairly well balanced. So any class can definitely solo just fine while leveling all the way up to level But there are some classes that are faster, can take down harder mobs, and that can take down more mobs at a time.
This will make you level up faster, but can also be used later to make tons of plat or acquire gear by yourself. A good solo class will be able to solo instances and raids one tier down from what they are, and this is one of the big money makers in the game. But there are a few that are ahead of the rest. Check out the list below to see a selection of the best solo classes.
Shadowknights are soloing machines and can take down huge masses of mobs fast. This makes them very popular for powerleveling by mentoring down and pulling entire zones. They can take a lot of damage, do both damage to single targets and have strong AOEs, and they have lifetaps to keep them alive. Only downside to a SK is that tanks are a bit more gear dependent than other classes. Bruisers and Monk have amazing melee DPS as well as high avoidance making them pretty durable.
They also get Feign death which is one of the biggest life savers for soloers. Inquistors are great healers and they wears plate armor, this makes them extremely hard to kill as they have high mitigation and can heal.
Other advantages are decent dps, power taps, a stunbreaker and immunity to stifle. If you want to take down epic mobs the Inq might be the way to go.
Necromancer : Good spellcaster with lifetaps and a good pet. Can really take down some though mobs. Mystic : Loads of wards and a good selection of spells make the Mystics decent soloers. Having stealth is a major advantage as well when soloing.

Monks learn many special attacks to enhance their damage dealing abilities, including the dragon punch and the legendary flying kick.

In their martial studies monks also learn other useful skills, including the ability to move silently and fall safely from great heights. Experienced monks also learn to feign death, slowing their body's functions enough to fool most observers into believing them dead -- this trick often allows the monk to escape dangerous situations as monsters wander off, thinking the monk defeated.
Monks are a specialist class, focusing on physical combat to the exclusion of all else. Monks provide a powerful ally in a group, though it's not unusual to see a monk adventuring alone. The monk is a good choice for players who enjoy a strong offensive role in combat and leading groups in their dungeon adventures. The following is from a post by Dzarn, EQ Developer. It supersedes any weight information in the chart above. Based on your level you have a hard cap on the amount of weight you can carry and you have a soft cap on the weight you can carry.
Staying under the hard cap allows you to receive an AC bonus that gets increasingly worse if you are over your soft cap. Going over your hard cap will cause you to incur an AC penalty however. The way this is calculated is as follows:. If your total weight is greater than your soft cap, then a 'Reduction' is applied, this reduction is a float so decimals will come into play. Your reduction is equal to your current weight minus your soft cap multiplied by 6. Your bonus is then multiplied by this reduction value and if it is less than 0 it is set equal to 0.
As an equation:. The 'Penalty Multiplier' is equal to your total weight minus 10 less than your hard cap then divided by Your penalty is multiplied by 4 then divided by 3 then multiplied by this 'Penalty Multiplier'. In equation form:. At the end of all of that, either your penalty or your bonus is added to your 'Class AC Bonus' for monks.Discussion in ' Fighters ' started by gaymer77Apr 5, Log in or Sign up.
EverQuest 2 Forums. Monk VS Bruiser. So I've decided to make a brawler alt now and don't know what the main differences are between a monk and a bruiser. Also what races make good bruisers? A bruiser is to a monk what a defiler is to a mystic.EQ2 - The Monk
One is proficient in their main purpose while the other gives a wider range of utility. The bruiser is the best damaging fighter class while the monkey offers utility and can serve as a clutch offtank, and if given the proper attention, can also become the main tank.
That said The monk doesn't really have a general purpose and is best for moments that don't really exist in game anymore. The best race for a brawler?
